THE DETAILS

Why can’t I download this X video?: what to know

The link points to the wrong page

A profile, search page, or timeline address does not identify a single post. Open the individual post and copy its link from the Share menu. Check that the address includes a status path and numeric identifier. Extra query parameters are usually not the main problem, but removing unrelated copied text can help if the URL field contains more than one link.

The post is not public

Protected posts and content that requires an X login cannot be accessed by a public downloader. The fact that you can view a post while signed in does not make its media public. Posts that were deleted, restricted, or made private after copying the URL may also stop working. Recheck visibility in a browser where you are not signed in.

The post may not contain a supported video

Some posts contain animated images, embedded third-party media, live broadcasts, or media types that do not provide a standard downloadable video rendition. The downloader can only list formats exposed by its media extractor. If the post plays inside X but no formats appear, the delivery type might not be supported or may be temporarily inaccessible.

The service or X may be busy

A temporary server error or platform rate limit can prevent metadata or video from loading. Wait a few minutes before trying again. Repeated requests in quick succession can make a temporary limit last longer. If many unrelated public posts fail consistently, the server’s yt-dlp installation may need an update or its host may have lost access to X.

A file can fail after extraction

If options load but the transfer fails, the selected media stream may have expired or changed before the download started. Request the post again and select a format once the results refresh. Confirm you have free storage, a stable connection, and a browser that allows downloads. On iOS, use Save to Files if Safari displays a video preview.
