THREE QUICK STEPS
On iPad, a downloaded video may open in Safari’s preview or arrive in Files; use the share and download controls to confirm where it went.
Open Safari on the iPad and paste a copied public status URL into the downloader.
Choose one listed rendition; if a preview opens, use Safari’s download indicator or Share menu.
Open Files, inspect Recents or Downloads, and use Share to save into Photos only if that option is available.
Copy the URL from the public status itself, then open the downloader in Safari on the iPad where you want the file. Paste the link into the form and request the available formats. If Safari displays the video instead of immediately saving it, look for the Share button or the download indicator near the address bar. iPadOS sometimes previews a media file in the current tab; that preview is a handoff point, not proof that the video has been added to Photos.
Safari downloads normally appear in the Files app, often under iCloud Drive or On My iPad in a Downloads folder selected in Safari settings. Open Files, browse Recents, or search by the newly created file name. To place a copy in Photos, use the system share sheet if Save Video is offered for that file. The available action can depend on the file type and the current iPadOS version. Saving to Files is a useful first step when Photos does not appear in the menu.
If the transfer pauses when Safari leaves the foreground, return to the browser’s downloads view and check whether it is still active. Keep the iPad connected to a stable network and leave enough storage for the selected file. Low Power Mode, a weak Wi-Fi signal, or a nearly full iCloud Drive can complicate saving. Do not repeatedly tap a link that already opened a preview; first check Files and Safari downloads to avoid multiple copies with confusing names.
When you need to compare the original post with a saved copy, iPad split view can keep the source and Files visible together on supported models. This is helpful for verifying the creator and context after the transfer, especially if the downloaded file uses an unfamiliar name. Storage locations and multitasking controls vary across iPadOS releases, so use the system app switcher or Files search if a particular gesture is unavailable. A keyboard can speed up pasting and file naming, but it is optional; touch controls are enough for the whole process.
