THE DETAILS

Download an X video on Mac: what to know

Bring the post link from X

Open the status that contains the video and copy its share link. If the X app is on another device, send the URL to your Mac through a method you trust, then paste it into Safari or Chrome. Ensure the link points to the post itself. A copied profile URL or a link ending at a search page cannot identify a single media item.

Review the options before saving

The result depends on what the public post exposes. Compare resolution and file size with your screen and available Mac storage. If a format is meant for offline watching, MP4 is often convenient, but playback still depends on its codecs. Keep enough disk space for the full transfer; an interrupted large download may leave a partial item in Downloads.

Manage Safari and Chrome files

Safari places transfers in its Downloads list and usually the Downloads folder; its toolbar icon shows recent activity. Chrome has a separate downloads page but commonly uses the same folder. If Safari opens a video preview, use Share or the download control to save it. Finder’s Downloads folder lets you move a finished copy into a project directory.

Resolve macOS download problems

A browser privacy setting may block clipboard reading, but keyboard paste still works. If a download does not begin, inspect the browser’s download list for a prompt or blocked transfer. A file that will not play may be incomplete or encoded differently than expected; retry with a fresh format list and test another available option.
